I really enjoyed this book. Compelling, engaging & funny, with formidable unnerving foes, likable original central characters and, above all, a great story. It is also the type of fast-moving adventure you won’t want to put down until finished. Mr. Havens is a writer of compassion and keen insight and has given us a heroine who is honorable, courageous, sensual and tough. The land that he has created has an almost intoxicating sense of place, full of rich characterization and beauty. Looking forward to his next work very much.

I got this as a gift, and found it to be an amazing read. The dialogue flows beautifully, and the author paints a picture of a world both strange and familiar with vivid colorful characters caught up in an adventure that is both a personal journey for some characters and a war between two species for possession of a planet facing an event that might spell extinction for both. This book easily passes the Bechdel Test, all of the main characters are women– Strong women, powerful women, hilarious women, and heroic women. This novel contains love, and betrayal, and humor. Sword & Sorcery at its finest!
